Volunteering to Help - FAQ

I'm sick of waiting for perfection! How can I help?

The best thing you can do right now is go check your entry for errors, and click a Fix Me icon to suggest corrections. Then do the same for people you know, events you remember, branches you've lived in, and so on. Get the data as good as it can be. That's what matters.

After that, have a look at the website and suggest changes. Canon Lore is a piece of software, written in PHP and MySQL. It's almost entirely driven by templates and database queries, so that a very large amount of what you see is produced by a very few lines of program code. That makes it easier to make mass corrections, so don't be afraid to suggest changes that would appear to be quite wide-ranging. You can contact Mortar Herald directly with these suggestions.

If you want to get down and dirty with data entry, and can follow instructions on the scale of installing software and avoiding the occasional bug, then contact Canon Herald and offer your services. There's a bit of a learning curve, and you'll quickly learn new ways to be patient with Mortar's mad software development skillz, but every little bit helps.

And if you love this site beyond all mortal understanding and wish to shower its maintainers in gifts and happiness, feel free. We will accept large or small denomination notes, gold bars and chocolate. No gift is too large or extravagant. No need to ask, just go ahead and give!

(Apparently bribery is unethical and illegal, so we had to take that paragraph out, dammit.)
