Sunday, 31 July 2005: Every part of the site has been changed, improved, sped up and generally fiddled with.
The obvious changes are the layout of nearly every page, a bunch of extra features and some serious updates to the data. Behind the scenes the database structure is completely new, and the program logic has been tidied up significantly. Some of the changes are:
- Name Search - search for people's names, with exact and approximate matching.
- Award Sparklines - see the FAQ for an explanation.
- "Fuzzy" dates are now legal: awards don't need exact dates to be listed.
- Lots of new detail added - for example, branches now display their history and two arrangements of their residents.
- New data: events of the kingdom
- New data: branch histories ("canton from ... to ...", "shire from ... to ...", "barony since ...").
- Loads of cross references throughout.
- Text descriptions on nearly every page: simplified and corrected.
- Better use of web standards (particularly CSS) to display common structures.
